Fran Clukey, PhD, RATh, LCPC is an art psychotherapist
and licensed clinical professional counselor in Bangor, Maine. She serves as a professional consultant for Solomon
Recovery Project. Fran’s most important job has been as mother to three wonderful children. She and her husband
live in Bangor ME. Their son was working as a Navy F/A-18 pilot/ tactics officer on the USS George Washington but was lost
at sea in November 2003. One of their daughters is a DEP Environmental Specialist and mother of their “perfect”
granddaughter. Their younger daughter is a family systems counselor in private practice. Their daughters have brought them
two wonderful sons-in-law and neat “grand-dogs.” Fran graduated
from Orono High School and completed her AB degree in Art in 1965 from Brown University and her MEd from the University of
Maine in 1980. She has studied at Rhode Island School of Design, Textile Institute of Lyon and Haystack School of Crafts.
For a score or more of years, Fran taught art in Orono, Veazie, and at the University. In 1995, she completed her Diploma
in Art Therapy at Goldsmiths College, University of London, England and became registered in the UK as an art psychotherapist
(RATh.). To practice art therapy in the US, Fran obtained a State of Maine counseling license, the Licensed Clinical Professional
Counselor (LCPC) qualification. She graduated with her PhD from the University of Maine in May 2003. Fran continues to build
her art psychotherapy and counseling practice in Bangor ME where she helps clients recover from trauma through individual
and group sessions. Fran’s work as an artist has been primarily in fabric design and painting. She enjoys making
art in many mediums. Fran uses her art time to think out and think through both work and personal concerns in cognitive and
affective ways. Making art for Fran is also fun! And it lets her sleep better!
